We are aware of the opportunities for dance to be delivered in a community context and are providing support to members and local partners involved in such work.

In a climate where sustained employment for dance artists is limited, we recognise the significant opportunity afforded by dance in a range of community contexts and residency schemes. We regard such opportunities as beneficial to the artist who increases his/her skill-set, develops new artistic ideas and gains employment. The experience is also of benefit to the community which gains skills and benefits from exposure to the dance artist. Also, this helps to sustain the development of dance, since such work increases the community’s familiarity of the art form, by exposing more people to the dance artist.

The aspiration behind our outreach and community programme is to take dance into the local community and to provide opportunities for people everywhere to engage with DanceHouse.
